Snow Storm Saturday

>> Saturday, February 6, 2010

Many states are bombarded by snow storm today. When I called my sister in NJ, she told me that they have 24 inches of snow! Wheewww and brrrr!

Mid-Atlantic experienced the biggest winter storm in nearly 90 years. The snowstorm walloped the Mid-Atlantic states, dumping up to 33 inches of snow that shut down the nation's capital, left thousands of people without power and caused flight cancellations nationwide.

In Washington, D.C., up to 33 inches had fallen in some areas. I know that it is hard to be hit with snowstorm but I just wish that it will snow here. With all the snow that some states are experiencing, Alabama had only few snowflakes. I even joked with my sister that if she has 24 inches of snow, I have two snowflakes!

I don't want a blizzard or snow storm... I just want some snow!

Camel Burger

>> Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Okay... I love burger! I eat fish burger, chicken burger, beef burger but camel burger? I think I have to really think about that.

Camel burger is the newest healthy option on Dubai menu. It is said that burger patties made of camel were fat- and cholesterol-free but a good question will be how did they ever tenderize a camel meat?

Camel meat is widely eaten in Arab countries but it is not commonly served in restaurants but Camel burger has gained its popularity because it becomes a hit to tourists and locals alike. A camel burger costs 20 UAE dirhams ($5.45).

Do you think you will ever eat a camel burger???? Maybe if they will not tell me that it is a camel!

Movie Kiosks

>> Monday, February 1, 2010

We are movie addicts. We watched movies almost every night. If we can't find good movie to rent we pull out a movie from our many dvds to watch. Although we have seen these movies, the second or third time seems to get better.

We stopped renting DVDs in Blockbuster because it cost's us $5 for two days.

For a couple of months now, we rent movies at the redbox. I love this kiosk because you can rent a movie for $1 a night and you can return it anywhere you want. It is very accessible also because you can check at their website and it will tell you what movies are available in a certain area. For the price of $1 a night it is worth it. We encountered bad dvd once but when we reported it online we were given coupon code as refund of the copy that we had. It was very nice of their customer service to do it.

Recently, I saw a blockbuster movie kiosk and I was amazed because they also just charge $1 a day for it. So far, I have only seen one kiosk. As far as I know you have to return the DVD in the kiosk where you got it (correct me if I am wrong please.)

At the moment I will still continue using redbox because of its convenience to us.

Apartment Living

>> Thursday, January 28, 2010

Since we live in an apartment, I don't need to deal with problems that revolves around a garage. I don't have to worry about any garage flooring problems. Our apartment complex has ample parking space for all its tenants and visitors. If we need to, we can also pull up our car near our door if we have some heavy stuff to tow inside our place.

There are some advantage when living in an apartment. Up until we can have our own house, I will enjoy the advantages that an apartment living can offer. Living in an apartment may mean limited space but hey I have a roof over my head that protects me from the cold weather, we have food in the table, and I have a great family.... Life is Good!

A Miracle (Haiti Quake Survivors)

The whole world was saddened of what happened to Haiti after being hit with a very strong quake. People around the world extended their help in one way or another. In fact, the text donation for Haiti victims has the biggest turn out. Many countries send their help for rescue. There are couple of naval vessel that sailed to Haiti to offer medical help. Despite all the help, food aid in Haiti is still in shortage. Haiti is still in need of aid.

It has been over 10 days since the fatal quake happened but the rescuers didn't give up. Cases of trapped survivors holding out for a week after an earthquake are considered extraordinary, while surviving beyond 10 days is extremely rare.

There is miracle!

  • A 16-year-old Darlene Etienne was dragged from the wreckage of Haiti's quake after 15 days buried alive.
  • US troops on Tuesday rescued a 31-year-old man, although he may have been buried by a building that collapsed after the earthquake. The troops said he had been trapped for 12 days.
  • On Saturday, search teams pulled a 25-year-old man out alive after 11 days under the rubble. He had been trapped in a grocer's shop and was able to grab a small amount of food and drink to keep himself alive.
Surviving for more than two weeks, it's difficult but apparently it's possible... miracles can happen!

Cleaning the Kitchen

It is important to maintain the cleanliness of a kitchen. The kitchen is where you prepare food so it is necessary that it is clean at all times. Maintaining a clean kitchen is a never ending task because a kitchen always gets messy.

When you cook, there is always a mess to clean up. When cooking it can't be avoided that there will be splatters in the stove and somewhere near the stove. It is a big advantage if your kitchen is made of metal tiles because it is easier to clean.

I am not the best when it comes to cleaning but I try my best. I just wish that our kitchen is made of metal tiles. Maybe when we have our own house, I can have a metal tiles kitchen.

A Reminder...

Car insurance is very important. There should be a budget allocated for this. I know that times are hard these days but a car insurance is a necessity. This will be our savior in times of accidents. It will be very burdensome if we have to shoulder medical expenses and other car expenses should there be an accident. There are many car insurance companies that you can compare prices with their insurance premiums. I myself, is shopping for lower premium rates. There is nothing wrong with finding the best insurance that can offer a lower premium.

As long as I have car insurance, I know that I am protected!

Shopping in Pajamas

Wearing pajamas while shopping has become common. I have seen some that even goes to the store barefoot. I often believe of having the freedom to wear whatever you please but I also believe that it is a personal discretion to wear appropriate outfit depending on where you are going.

For me, going to the store barefoot is really tacky. I can understand those that wear pajamas... the kind that doesn't look like pajamas. If I see someone shopping wearing a pajama like in the pic below, I think I will disapprove too....

Anyway, shoppers in pyjamas and bare feet are no longer welcome at Tesco supermarket in Wales where customer complaints have prompted the introduction of a strict dress code. Signs announcing the no-PJs rule now grace the entrance to the sprawling Tesco's outlet in St Mellons, a suburb of the Welsh capital Cardiff.
